How do I connect to my wireless network?

Before you undertake this tutorial please ensure that you have the following details to hand:-

Your Wireless Network Security Key
Note: These instructions are for the 'Windows Wireless Zero Configuration Wizard', if you are using a proprietary configuration app from your hardware manufacturer please either see their instructions or disable it and use the Windows one.

Right click the Wireless Network icon in your task bar. Choose 'View Available Wireless Networks'

Select the network you want to connect to and click 'Connect'
If you do not see your network, click 'Refresh network list'

Enter your network key then click 'Connect'. You can obtain your key from your I.T. Administrator or your router's 'Wireless Security' configuration page.

Wait for your connection to be made.

How do I copy a link/icon from my menu to my desktop?

Navigate to the required icon in your start menu. Right click the icon and whilst holding down the mouse button, drag the item to your desktop.
Release the mouse button and from the menu select "Copy Here"

Note if you select 'Move here' or drag and drop the icon with the left mouse button, you will MOVE the icon from the menu to the desktop not copy it.

How do I manually run a virus scan on my machine?

Open your Anti Virus application. Navigate to Start Menu->Programs->Symantec Client Security->Symantex AntiVirus

In the left pane, select 'Scan Computer'
In the right pane, check the drives you wish to scan, then click 'Scan'.

Note: When selcting drives to scan, do not include any networked drives.

Double click the printer you want to connect to eg SamsungM. It will automatically be installed.

How do I connect to a drive / share on my server?

The server & drive/folder share name you wish to connect to.

Open 'My Computer', click Tools->Map Network Drive

Select the Drive letter to assign from the Drive dropdown box.
Enter the Server and share name in the 'Folder' text box. Use the format \\<servername>\<sharename>. In this case it was \\io\bespoke

Alternatively, if you don't know the server/folder share name, click Browse and navigate to the desired server/folder share.
